Novel non-coding RNA-based therapeutic approaches to prevent statin-induced liver damage

چکیده
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are tiny non-coding ribonucleic acids (RNAs) that control gene expression of target messenger RNA (mRNAs) at the posttranscriptional level by mRNA degradation or translational repression. Thus, miRNAs have emerged as critical regulators during physiological and pathological processes (Thum et al, 2007). Recently, several reports have revealed an important role for miRNAs in cholesterol and fatty acid homeostasis and also insulin signalling (Davalos et al, 2011;Marquart et al, 2010; Najafi-Shoushtari et al, 2010; Rayner et al, 2010, 2011a). Cholesterol is a precursor in metabolic pathways and an important structural component in the cell membrane of most vertebrates. Notably, dysfunction in cholesterol homeostasis is linked tometabolic syndrome, atherosclerosis and type-2 diabetes (Rayner et al, 2011b). In general, the cholesterol metabolism is a complex process which is regulated mainly by

Identification of Intermediate-Size Non-Coding RNAs Involved in the UV-Induced DNA Damage Response in C. elegans
BACKGROUND A network of DNA damage response (DDR) mechanisms functions coordinately to maintain genome integrity and prevent disease. The Nucleotide Excision Repair (NER) pathway is known to function in the response to UV-induced DNA damage. Although numbers of coding genes and miRNAs have been identified and reported to participate in UV-induced DNA damage response (UV-DDR), the precise role o...
متن کاملClinical and in vitro Study of Novel Long Non-Coding RNA lncUSMycN in Breast Cancer Cancer
Background: Despite recent advances in diagnosis and treatment, breast cancer remains a leading cause of death in women worldwide. Long non-coding RNAs are a new class of RNA molecules that have been shown to participate in tumorigenesis. The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of lncUSMycN in tumor samples and to evaluate its potential role in the breast cancer cell line. Metho...
متن کاملComparison of Elevated Liver Enzymes in Type 2 Diabetic Patients in User and Non-User of Statin
Background: Type-2 diabetes is a risk factor for progressive non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and the majority of diabetic patients have blood lipid disorders, so they take statin drugs. Statins have the adverse effects such as liver dysfunction and increase in liver enzymes. The purpose of this study was to compare the liver enzymes in type 2 diabetic patients who are user and non-user of sta...
متن کاملLong non-coding RNA FOXO1 inhibits lung cancer cell growth through down-regulating PI3K/AKT signaling pathway
Objective(s): Lung cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors, which seriously threatens the health and life of the people. Recently, a novel long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) termed lncFOXO1 was found and investigated in breast cancer. However, the effect of lncFOXO1 on lung cancer is still ambiguous. The current study aimed to uncover the functions of lncFOXO1 in l...
متن کاملDysregulated Expression of Long Non-Coding RNA MINCR and EZH2 in Colorectal Cancer
Background: As critical regulators, lncRNAs have attracted attention from researchers for diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic purposes in human carcinogenesis via interfering with mRNAs such as EZH2. Nevertheless, the potent roles and molecular mechanisms of these RNAs in CRC are not clearly known. Methods: In this study, the tissue expressions of lncRNA MINCR and EZH2 mRNA between colorect...
